Thanks to YouTube, we can all enjoy terrible corporate training videos. Here are a few of my favorites that will show the mistakes to avoid.
1. Trying too hard to be cool. There’s not much to say about this one except some people just shouldn’t rap. What musical genius do you think is behind this one? My money’s on Pharrell or Dr. Dre.
2. Putting your CEO at the front. We all know Wendy’s Founder Dave Thomas’s face but maybe we shouldn’t know him on video. I like the part where he shows us “where the beef” is but then quickly shoves it back in as if he doesn’t want us to take a good look at it. If your CEO isn’t video material, find someone in your organization who is or hire a professional. Side note- what happened to the Wendy’s salad bar, can we bring that back please?
3. Using bad or weird graphics. There are two things that will date your videos- hair styles and bad graphics. The hairstyle problem is easy to solve, have your employees and actors in the video shave their heads! As for graphics, be sure to start with the best graphics you can find and keep them classic so they don’t look dated in a year or two. Also, just stay away from anything too weird, like I don’t know…vomiting question marks! Watch this video to see what I mean.
4. Being generally creepy. Most adults I know, even the ones with kids, would rather take a sharp stick in the eye than go to Chuck E. Cheese. If you think being in the same room as screaming children, stale pizza and colorfully dressed mascots is creepy, this video of how to clean the mascot costume will give you the chills.
What’s the worst training video you’ve ever seen? Tell me about it in the comments and share a link if you have it!
