Culled from news headlines this month, here are a pair of stories that should give you hope that you can absolutely be famous (whether or not you should be), and that you can easily lie to whoever you want to as long as the lighting is right. Enjoy!
There Is A Record For Everything
It’s hard to know what Guinness is more famous for – its beer, or its determination to allow anyone with any dream of anything to try and turn it into a world record. Take Sun Tan City in Sioux City, Iowa, for example, which was recently awarded the Guinness world record for most spray tans performed in a single hour – 113, in case you’re curious, which breaks the previous record of 107. On the one hand, it’s an interesting marketing angle; I mean, I wouldn’t have known Sioux City’s Sun Tan City even existed otherwise. But on the other, you’ve just taught me that a spray tan can be performed in 30 seconds, and it’s hard to believe that half a minute is enough time to give me a spray tan that looks anywhere close to natural. Then again, do people in Sioux City expect a natural-looking tan in February? Anyway, if anybody wants a tan and has an extra half-minute to spare, I know where you should go!
Oh, and in case you think I’m kidding about the whole ‘there’s a record for everything’ line, here’s one about a lady who has the Guinness record for seeing “Bohemian Rhapsody” in theaters more than anybody else. I kind of feel like Guinness is diluting their brand a bit…
Everybody’s Social Media Page Is A Lie
A blogger recently posted a series of pictures from her recent trip to Bali on her Instagram page, which is standard. The fun part, though, is that she wasn’t actually in Bali – she was in her local Ikea store. That’s right; she managed to pose in enough different outfits in a sufficiently diverse array of Ikea displays that she could convincingly tell people she was in Bali – and nobody caught on. She even left some Ikea tags in the pictures so people could spot the lie, but none of them did. Instead she got a lot of advice about where to go while in Bali and also some of the standard “so jealous, you’re living your best life” comments we’ve all come to expect. Yay for Photoshop! Making us believe fake things for over 20 years!
